Do you ever feel like you are in need of some good news? I was talking with a friend this week and she said that every time she turned on the TV she was overwhelmed by the bad news. We can hear troubloing news about violence in our cities, fear of the economy, and dishonest people … Bad news seems to dominate the headlines.
Many years ago, an angel appeared to some shepherds and proclaimed, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10. Luke 8:1 says, “After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.”
I find it fascinating the word Gospel literally means “good news.” The story of Jesus, His message, His death and resurrection are called good news! In spite of living in troubling times, we have the hope of the gospel. Don’t let bad news dominate the headlines of your life. Turn off the TV and open your Bible. It is full of good news.
