I saw this quote on Facebook recently – perhaps you did as well. “Beware of a destination addiction – a preoccupation with the idea that happiness is in the next place, the next job, or with the next partner. Until you give up the idea that happiness is somewhere else, it will never be where you are.”
I think there is a lot of truth in that statement. As Americans, it is so easy for us to have a destination addiction. Without hardly realizing it, we can think that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. But is it really? It reminds me of one of my most favorite tweets ever – The grass is greener where you water it.
Instead of living life always wanting more or desiring something different, let’s choose to give thanks for today’s blessings. I read as statistic recently that if you have a roof over your head and food on your table, you are richer than 93% of the world’s population. That is kind of sobering, isn’t it? Father, teach us to be content and grateful people. The Bible says, “This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 ESV
